The F train on 63rd and Lexington is a very convenient line, however it is located like 3 or 4 floors underground. The catch...one or more of the LOOOOONG escalators is always broken!! It is a real bitch to walk down, or let alone up the steps there. Keep that in mind if you head to this station.By: Favre4president on 12-14-2009 Report this post as inappropriate

It does take awhile to get down there, but it is the best and only way to get to the west side all the way downtown without transferring trains from midtown east/UES. So, although the station sucks, it's worth it for the lack of transfers needed if you're trying to get to the lower west side of the city

While I was walking UP the stairs the other day, I couldn't help but feel bad for other people that aren't as mobile as I am who were walking up as well. The solution, however is to take the elevator, although you have to wait forever.

Has anyone else noticed that horrible smell in the passge between the F and 6 trains?
By: Anonymous on 03-16-2010
Haha, that smell is awful. MTA's gotta clean up their act! Nevermind the millions in debt, fix this awful station!

I agree that to catch the train for this station, u have to walk a long way down. It is really far down. Sometimes the escalators are not broken. When I do get to this station, it is actually to get on the train rather than getting out, which takes less energy.

You are right that there is always at lest one escalator out of service at that station - it has been this way for YEARS. Such blatant incompetence. Whoever is being paid to "fix" these escalators should be fired. It is clear they are making sure the escalators keep breaking down so they can keep their jobs. With so many competent people out of work, why is this tolerated?

BTW a young woman was raped in the elevator at that station a few years ago.

The uptown passage between the F and 6 is Lexington Ave! And why won't the MTA allow you to transfer at 68th St instead of just 59th?

The whole subway system sucks! In this day and age it's incredible that they can't handle one sick passenger - everything shuts down if someone gets sick. And with all the money they get from continuing fare increases, why oh why haven't they fixed their "SIGNAL PROBLEMS" yet? Does anyone think that a government agency reads this blog? It would be good if they did.

You guys are a bunch of ninnies. I've been traveling from this station for the past 20 years and I've never had a complaint. If the escalator isnt working, take the elevator... There are hundreds of subway stations without elevators. Life could be way worse!
Also, in this particular station, there is no underground path to get from the 4,5 or 6, so whatever smell your talking about must be YOU!

Couldn't agree more. Getting down to this train takes a LONNNNG time at 63rd street. I'd use another route if you're near this area (if possible).
