Gristedes is horrible in FIDi

Address: Maiden Lane

I've been shopping at Maiden Lane Gristedes for over 2 years now and totally fed up! Never mind the prices went up and quality went down. The service is unbelievably bad lately. Went there last night and the cashier acted like she was doing me a favor of doing the transaction. She wouldn't even touch any products in the basket and she was looking at me all disgusted. The people who work there don't even look at you or even say 'thank you" at the end. Just shove items on top of another without looking and then throw a receipt at you. I don't know what countries all workers there came from (i'm not originally from here either) and if they're not happy here they can go back. From now on i'll be ordering Fresh Direct since i do not want to put myself throught that experience ever again. Perhaps, if they'd hire some ppl who are service oriented people would shop there more!

I guess this is a Gristedes trend, b/c I've had the same experiences at the Murray Hill one and on the UES at 75th and 2nd. They should get their crap together and maybe hire some staff who know how to smile and serve their customers.

I agree this place this place is a dump.  Overpriced and crap quality.  I got salsa from there once and it had mold growing in it. They made me bag my own groceries once.  I swear they don't throw out expired food, they just change the expiration dates on it.

I really don't like shopping at Gristedes(UES 75th and 2nd) The staff is rude, not serviceminded at all! And everything is overpriced. The cashiers are the worst......

There is a Gristedes on 71 South End in Battery Park City, that beats it all when it comes to arrogant staff, tons of expired foods, and a generally mistreated store. I have sent email to their marketing responsible about the horribble state of the store, and everytime I get nice letter in return but see no improvement in the store. I feel sorry for the people that have no other choise than to shop here.

The Gristedes on 1st Ave and 65th sucks, too.  Same deal- rude cashiers that never look at you or condescend to speak to you, much less announce your total.  I even saw an employee eating a plate of chicken at the customer service desk once- picking meat off the bones and all!  Disgusting.  Food is always offensively overpriced and the store is totally dirty.  My favorite was the $9 cereal that sells at Trader Joe's and Fresh Direct for $2.99.  Trader Joe's and Fresh Direct for the win!

The Gristeded on 8th Ave and 22nd is a dump too. Luckily I am close to a Whole Foods and can get most of my groceries there. In many cases they are cheaper than Gristedes.  Also for fruit and produce try the street vendors, they have the best prices.

In BPC they have 2 stores within a few blocks of each other.  I usually go to the one at South end and (almost) Albany. This place sucks! It smells bad, is overpriced, staff is rude, quality is poor (except for their beef) and tack on a few cents here and there to your bill!  I use it only for convenience - but even for that - it sucks! Avoid!
